Demographic consequences of assisted reproduction in Czechia

The project will address the issue of the broader demographic consequences of the use of ART. The importance of the demographic approach to ART is increasing in the context of reproductive ageing and sub-replacement fertility in developed countries. The main aim is to evaluate the importance of the use of ART for recent and future fertility trends in Czechia (in terms of tempo and quantum). In addition, we will focus on the identification of the socio-demographic characteristics of mothers who have undergone ART treatment and on the evaluation of the relationship between the use of ART and selected health outcomes such as birth weight, gestational age and multiple births. Finally, we intend to analyse the extent to which birth outcomes can be attributed to the effect of ART treatment or to the socio-demographic specificities of mothers who have undergone ART. We will employ unique datasets of all children born in Czechia and of all mothers that gave birth in Czechia between 2013 and 2018 from the National Register of Reproductive Health and the birth register.
