Women's Writing and Translating in Fin-de-Siècle Prague and the Bohemian Lands
Anotace anglicky
The project aims to explore the work and biographies of German-language Jewish women writers, journalists and translators in the context of the literary and social history of the fin-de-siècle Prague and the Bohemian Lands. In this specific period, women participated significantly in the body of literary production, journalism, and translation; a fact that has often been unreflected in research literature. Even though we will consider women’s writing in the Bohemian Lands in broader context of the Habsburg Monarchy, our focus will be on writing and translating of German-speaking Jewish women in the multilingual environment in Prague. By inspecting the women’s legacies, among others, and reconstructing their life and work, we will conceptualise women’s writing and translating in that period. We will combine historic and theoretical approaches and bring interdisciplinary and international aspects to the subject matter. Applying the perspective of gender will enable us to bring the sub-current realities and context to the fore that have so far escaped academic attention.
