Strategies of adaptation to neo-absolutism in private and public communication (the example of Karel Havlíček)

Anotace anglicky

The project focuses on the research of the correspondence of Karel Havlíček, a key figure in Czech politics and culture in the middle of the 19th century, in comparison with his journalism and the correspondence of other key figures of the period. It intends to study the texts from 1849–1856 with regard to the life and communication strategies projected into them, to the historical and linguistic context, and to the dichotomy of private and public (in both communication and life), and to analyze them from historical, literary, and linguistic viewpoints. Havlíček's correspondence from this period will be made available in a critical edition equipped with introductory analytical studies. The planned results of the project include a monograph on strategies for adapting to neo-absolutist forms of government after the demise of the democratization reforms of 1848, as reflected in contemporary private and public texts, two volumes of the critical edition of correspondence, and several journal studies. Part of the outputs will be published abroad (Germany, Austria) and in English or German.
