Anotace anglicky

This project aims to analyze and interpret the role of the Prague Academy of Fine Arts (1799–1999) in shaping and disseminating Czech visual art. It critically examines key transformations in the status of art in society over two centuries, including shifts in the artistic canon and its discourse, the social conditions and objectives of art education, and the political tensions surrounding the public presentation of art leading to diverse interpretations and appropriations of its values. The primary outcome will be a critical monograph, developed in collaboration with researchers from various institutions. Organized into chronologically structured periods and chapters, it will be guided by common research questions. The monograph will offer a new perspective on the development of Czech art, aiming to deconstruct the aura of elitism inherent in the Western concept of "high art" by confronting it with alternative artistic practices, non-academic art, public presentations, and political influences.
