History of German Studies in Bohemia and Moravia from 1800 to 1945

Anotace anglicky

The proposed project researches and evaluates the significance of German studies in the Czech and German parts of Charles University in Prague. The project focuses on German studies in the broader context of their development in German speaking countriesin the period from 1800 to 1945, and on their status among other humanities at Bohemian and Moravian universities. The project aims to cover the historical development of the field in Bohemia and Moravia from the beginning of the 19th century up to the end of World War II. The period under observation shall be divided into two parts: 1. 1800-1882 (the division of Charles University and the subsequent founding of a German studies seminar at the Czech university), 2. 1882-1945. In the latter period, the project concentrates on German studies at the Czech and German universities, on their progress in Bohemia and Moravia, and the mutual contacts and cooperation of the representatives from both Prague universities.
