Medieval Musical Instruments in the Bohemian Lands
Anotace anglicky
The suggested project deals in detail with medieval music instruments used in Central Europe. The instruments will be ranked according to contemporary organological criteria and according to their place in the cultural life of medieval society. Not onlytraditional music treatises and other written sources but also artistic pictorial materials, uniquely preserved medieval music instruments and materials from archaeological discoveries will be used. The main output of the project will be a monograph prepared for publishing. It will characterize different instrument groups as well as individual medieval music instruments; the text will be supplemented by a comprehensive note apparatus, indices and a lot of photos reproduced in full colour. The most important parts of the monograph including the commentaries on photos will be published both in Czech and English. Another output of the project will be a database of texts and photos concentrating all available materials concerning medieval music instrumentsused in Bohemian lands (text testimonies, illuminations, board and wall paintings, sculptures, archaeological discoveries etc.) and which should be the base for other organological research in the Czech Republic and abroad. The conception of this database will enable an easy change to textual and pictorial information system available on-line via Internet with plenty of information on medieval music instruments used in the Bohemian lands.
