The Culture and Society in Czech Silesia in the years 1780-1848

Anotace anglicky

The aim of the project is to write art historical synthesis of artistic and cultural development in Czech Silesia between the years 1780 and 1848. In this supposed synthesis the development of visual arts in the social context would be stressed in contrary to the analytical approach of the previous applicant?s books. This supposed synthesis would highlight some important noble patrons and clergymen in their relation to the visual arts, especially painting and sculpture including graphics and book illustrations, and to bring more detailed analysis of the connections between visual arts and its different social role as patronage of art, noblemen and clergymen representation by means ordering suitable paintings or sculptural works. The suggested synthesiswould be mainly concentrated on these topics as follows: the relationship between the centre (Vienna) and periphery (Opava), the connections between the image and the text, palace libraries of noblemen in Silesia and reception of ideas of Enlightenmentand Classicism in Silesian society, artworks in the context of the ideas adopted from the cultural centres, images and sculptures in their social context and functioning including the mutual connections between these kinds of the artworks in conditions of Silesia around the year 1800, the painting and sculpture in their functioning in sacral versus profane contexts, the artworks in the context of book period production and literature.
