Resilience and impact of clean-tech start-ups in Bavaria & Czech Republic

Anotace anglicky

The aim of the project is to deepen the understanding of the resilience of start-ups and their economic, environmental, and social impact and to formulate a framework/methodology for assessing resilience and impact. Start-ups are young enterprises characterized by a high degree of flexibility, new ideas, and expertise. These characteristics make them able to bring new technological solutions to market quickly, but at the same time, make them very sensitive to market challenges. Within the project, we specifically focus on clean-tech start-ups. These start-ups play a key role in innovating to mitigate climate change, a political priority for governments seeking to meet social and climate goals. These clean-tech start-ups are of particular interest in terms of their resilience and economic, environmental, and social impact. They face additional challenges related to the novelty/instability/unpredictability of the markets in which they operate and which they seek to influence. At the same time, their ultimate (direct and indirect) impact on the environment and society, which can be both beneficial and harmful, is not well understood. The project unfolds in three interrelated stages. The first stage deals with identifying internal factors that contribute to the resilience and impact of clean-tech start-ups and the development of tools to measure these attributes in the context of Germany (Bavaria) and the Czech Republic. Building on this, the second stage examines the external environment (start-up ecosystems) in both countries and how they support or limit the resilience and impact of start-ups. Based on the findings, the final stage formulates policy recommendations (for start-ups themselves, but also for policymakers and other stakeholders).
