Anotace anglicky

Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is recognised for its efficacy in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and asthma. However, the real-world effectiveness of AIT is shaped by adherence to treatment and the duration of treatment under varying health policies. The proposed BETTER SEASON project aims to investigate how adherence and treatment duration influence the effectiveness of AIT in real-world settings, with a focus on seasonal vs. year-round treatment access. The study will primarily focus on AIT outcomes in the Czech Republic, where reimbursement limits AIT to allergy seasons, and will make comparisons with Slovakia, where it is available year-round. Utilizing real-world evidence data, the study will analyse large administrative datasets to understand pre-treatment medication trends and their impact on treatment outcomes. To achieve this, the study will employ a range of analytical techniques, including propensity score matching and novel longitudinal propensity matching techniques, to mitigate bias and enhance the accuracy of treatment effect estimation. The employment of health economic models will be used to assess the cost-effectiveness of different AIT access policies by examining their impact on medication use, asthma incidence, and overall healthcare costs. The anticipated findings will elucidate the clinical and economic impacts of varying AIT adherence levels and treatment durations. The overarching objective is to provide informed guidance on optimal AIT reimbursement strategies, with a view to enhancing patient outcomes and enhancing the efficiency of the healthcare system. The study will integrate clinical efficacy with economic evaluations, thereby providing pivotal data to policymakers and healthcare providers, thus supporting informed decisions on AIT policies. This investigation addresses a critical gap in understanding the real-world effectiveness of AIT, aligning with the Health Research Concept to 2030 and national priorities.
