Collection of patterns of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague as a morphological source of learning.

Anotace anglicky

The depository of the Museum of Decorative Arts contains a collection, unique in this country, of patterns coming from the time when the Museum was founded and from the years of the 19th century that followed. These morphological samplers were losing their significance in the 20th century. It was deemed that the modern times bringing a new modus vivendi would not need historicist samplers. The point therefore is that the precious documents of the past should be not just preserved but also made again accessible as study material providing new sources of inspiration. This means to carry out first of all a systematic registration and documentation of the collection, to perform the most needed restoring adjustments and, later on, to classify all individualitems. The patterns will thus be ready to be used by experts as well as by the general public in the Museum´s library. As a second stage, after the above collection of patterns is compared with the collection of photo patterns and ornamental engravings.
