    review article in conference proceedings Turková I., Kotrlý M.: Forensic microscopy and microanalysis. . Proceedings MC 2025 Karlsruhe MIcroscopy conference, pp. 327 - 329, first edition 8/2025, ISBN- 978-3-948023-55-3, 2025. The Institute of Criminalistics of the Police of the Czech Republic (ICP) is also involved in the detection of forgeries in the field of fine arts. In these case the laboratory conducts scientific research on particularly controversial works by authors from the first and second half of the 20th century, which are very often tradable on the Czech market. When detecting counterfeits, knowledge of the artists' palette and also the dating of the creation of synthetic pigments is equally important. A wide range of analytical methods is used to verify the authenticity of a work of art, both from organic and inorganic analysis, but for works of art, one of the key analyses is the verification of originality by studying the color layer of pigment phases and thus imaging using optical microscopy, and the key analysis is SEM/EDX. ICP in cooperation with the National Gallery Prague, has been developing robust and proven procedures for identifying forgeries in the field of fine art, so that they can be fully defended in court. The correctness of the developed procedures and techniques has already been tested in many cases involving disputed works. The knowledge of experts about the historical production processes of pigments that contain specific components also plays an indisputable role. In the laboratories of the University of Pardubice, pigments were synthesized according to historical recipes, which are compared with materials available on the market.
