COMPARISON OF THE MSG 2.5-MINUTE RAPID SCAN DATA AND PRODUCTS DERIVED FROM THESE, WITH RADAR AND LIGHTNING OBSERVATIONS
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
In 2012 and 2013, EUMETSAT has conducted several experimental 2.5-minute rapid scan tests with its MSG satellites. Of these, the most interesting data sets were acquired on 20 June 2013 and 29 July 2013. On these days, many storms with interesting signatures from a satellite perspective evolved above central Europe, the majority of these being severe. The storms exhibited almost all storm-top features that have been recently recognized within severe storms by the satellite community such as overshootingtops (OT), gravity waves, cold-ring and cold-U/V features (with transitions between these), above-anvil ice plumes, distinct plume-like BTD (WV6.2-IR10.8) anomaly, and areas of increased 3.9 ?m cloud-top reflectivity. In our studies we seek to use this2.5-minute data to study the evolution of some of these storm-top features at fine temporal scale, with an emphasis on overshooting tops. The core of the present work is a collection of all of the overshooting tops which were detected man
