Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The publication is an information brochure on the project RIVERCHANGE and presents aims and approaches of the project Monitoring of long-term changes in the biodiversity of running waters at the time of climate change: proposal, implementation and incorporation into the ARROW public information system (EHP-CZ02-OV-1-018-2014). This brochure is intended as an introduction for scientists and public to get acquainted with project goals, approaches to evaluation, and also as a guide to work with the main output of the project - a public presentation website. The aim of the project was to expand the existing WFD surface water monitoring system and the related public information system IS ARROW and add a module for monitoring the long-term biodiversity changes of biological quality elements (BQEs) (phytobenthos, macrophytes, benthic macroinvertebrates, fish) at the time of climate change. BQEs are monitored for the purpose of the ecological status assessment of surface waters under WFD. To measure biodiversity changes at the time of climate change, it is essential to minimalize anthropogenic impacts and evaluate longer time periods. Therefore the monitoring network of long-term changes was proposed at sites with minimal anthropogenic impact and with the use of historical data obtained at these so-called reference sites that have been monitored in previous periods (since 1996). Research on the reference sites will serve both to assess the stability of the reference conditions as well as the basis for assessing of biodiversity changes and their possible causes. As a part of the project, a monitoring network of sites was set up to monitor long-term changes in biodiversity in the Czech Republic; at the network sites, sampling and analysis of biota and surface water samples was carried out by standard procedures and hydromorphological mapping of river reaches was done. A method of evaluating and presenting newly acquired data in the context of historical data has been proposed and a web portal has been set up to clearly display and evaluate the changes in spreading or abundance of organisms from the mid-1990s to the present, in relation to environmental variables, including those related to climate. The chapter called „work with the presentation website“ describes how any interested person can display and evaluate the changes in indicators related to biodiversity and ecological status for BQEs in the network of selected site in the Czech Republic.
