Food waste co-treatment with wastewater: a case study under footprint approach
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This review paper focuses on scenarios involving co-treatment of food waste together with wastewater in an anaerobic digestion process. Using the method of scientometrics, the experience of several European and Asian countries in the processing of food waste according to their component composition is analyzed. Databases (DB) such as the Food Waste - OECD Statistics DB, the Publicly Available Drinking Water Treatability DB, and the Scopus DB are used for the analysis. The Vosviewer program is used to implement visualization modeling of clusters along the lines of food waste, wastewater and sewage sludge treatment. In this case, an important task is to develop an applied direction for the use of the "waste footprint" methodology to effectively evaluate co-processing in an industry application. Waste production is one of the major environmental pressures on human activities. Comprehensive accounting of waste generation is the basis for the development of an effective waste management policy and allows the identification of sources of waste generation. Identifying key waste-producing sectors allows for a targeted waste policy and measures to be taken with high efficiency. For example, instead of landfills, integrated recycling of food waste with wastewater can reduce both environmental and economic damage. Waste production can be viewed from the perspectives of both producers and consumers (perspectives based on production and consumption). The use of waste footprint assessment will allow for more effective integration of food waste with biological wastewater treatment in terms of efficacy of wastewater treatment and identification of the application sector.
