Fédor Löwenstein is one of many Czechoslovak artists who worked in Paris during what was known as the First Republic. Like many of his contemporaries and colleagues, he would have remained virtually forgotten if by chance his works had not some time ago attracted the attention of curators from the Museum of Modern Art at Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, which found three paintings by Löwenstein in its collections. These works were confiscated by the Gestapo in December 1940 and were destinated to be destroyed.
