Zwischen 1905 und 1908 schufen die deutsch-böhmischen Künstler Walther Klemm und Carl Thiemann im damals wiederbelebten Medium Farbholzschnitt ein umfangreiches und ambitioniertes Werk, das in seiner Avanciertheit erst Jahre später von den deutschen Expressionisten erreicht wurde. In Gegenüberstellung mit Werken anderer Prager Künstler führt die Ausstellung erstmals in Deutschland auch den Prager Kontext vor Augen. Zudem verortet sie das rasante Frühwerk von Klemm und Thiemann in einem breiteren kunsthistorischen Kontext. Hierzu zählen die großen japanischen und europäischen Vorläufer ebenso wie die Arbeiten befreundeter Kollegen in Wien.

Between 1905 and 1908, the German-Bohemian artists Walther Klemm and Carl Thiemann created a comprehensive and ambitious work in the medium of woodcut, which was achieved in years later by the German Expressionists. The Klemm´s and Thiemann´s art was displayed there in contrast to works by other Prague artists. The exhibition also introduced the Prague context for the first time in Germany. In addition, she focused the rapid early work of Klemm and Thiemann in a broader art historical context. These include the great Japanese and European forerunners as well as the work of friendly colleagues in Vienna.
