Comparison of standardized methods of susceptibility determination of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Streptococcus suis field isolates to enrofloxacin and marbofloxacin
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of study was comparison of results of antimicrobial susceptibility testing of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Streptococcus suis field isolates to enrofloxacin and marbofloxacin obtained using the standardized methodologies accepted by Clinical Laboratory Testing Institute and European Committee of Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing – disc diffusion test, agar dilution method and broth microdilution method and E-test. The results of susceptibility testing obtained by the above mentioned methods were compared each other in terms of usability, accuracy, speed of performing and possibilities of interpretation of results. If we compare the AST results obtained by the individual tested methods, we have to exclude the results of the disc diffusion test from the evaluation. The sizes of the zones of inhibition and the MIC values cannot be compared and no correlation between determined inhibition zones and the MIC values for the individual isolates was found. Presented MIC values determined for isolates in E-test are slightly different from MIC values determined by diffusion tests due to the various specific concentrations that allow these tests to be evaluated. In general, the MIC values determined by these three tests were similar with slight differences that were essentially at a concentration range similar to ranges of the MIC, which are usually referred as acceptable for reference strains according to AST methodologies (mostly range of three concentrations in two-fold dilution series).
