The effect of sudden temperature decrease on common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) welfare
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Animal protection and welfare, 26th international conference, conference proceedings (p 81-85): The short-term stress invoked by temperature decrease (Δ -11 °C) was evaluated using common carp (Cyprinus carpio, Linnaeus 1758), the total of 56 individuals was implied. After 14-days of acclimatization to temperature 27.8 ± 1 °C, fish (n = 28) were moved to the water temperature 16.8 ± 1 °C (group T2) while the rest of fish (n = 28) was kept in the original water temperature (group T1). The haematological, biochemical analysis and analysis of digestive tract activity were performed at 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours (h) after relocation of fish in both groups (T1, T2). The digestion was slowed, moreover some haematological and biochemical parameters were decreased when fish were exposed to colder water; in opposite, lactate and liver enzymes were increased in T2. A change in haematological parameters came back to physiological levels within 48 h. Additionally, the lower ability of endogenous ammonia excretion was reported for T2. In conclusion, the sudden change of temperature could negatively affect the metabolism and various indices of common carp and cause the welfare disruption.
