System for voluntary evaluation of dairy farms according quality of antimicrobial use in cows, targeted treatment of mastitis and udder health

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

In Czechia and in countries with developed farming, the largest part of antimicrobial use (AMU) in dairy cattle is associated with mastitis treatment and control at drying off. Minimizing the incidence of mastitis and its targeted treatment thus represents great potential for AMU reduction. So far, little attention has been paid to the quality of AMU. Aim: Web application that will utilize data on I. AMU, II. somatic cell counts (SCC) for the evaluation of dairy farms. I. AMU: Data source is „DLN Cattle“ web app (Diary of Diseases and Treatments),which is used since 2017. Quantity of AMU is expressed as the No. of treatment courses (i.e. the use of one AM veterinary medicinal product (VMP) in one quarter or on an animal via another route) per 100 cows/year. Malus points will be specifically scored in each treatment course according three qualitative aspects: 1) EMA-AMEG category of an antimicrobial (AM) - AM are scored as D, C, B with a malus of 10, 20 and 30, respectively, 2) Czech ""Prudent use regimen classification“ - VMPs with additional 10 malus points, 3) No. of AM per one VMP (monocomponent VMPs should be preferred): a) full points counted for the AM from the highest AMEG category (among AM in the VMP), b) only half the points counted for the 2nd, 3rd or 4th AM component. All AM VMPs within the scope of obligatory reported ATCvet codes will be assessed. Targeted mastitis therapy 1) during lactation: 40% of malus points will be removed, if there is proof of a pathogen from the sample taken before the treatment, 2) at drying off: 5 bonus points per quarter dried off without AM (20 bonus points per cow without AM) will be provided. Scoring points per 100 cows/year (including sum of both types, malus and bonus points separately) will be the main AMU outcome. II. Udder health at milk recording (MR): Frequency of new infections according test-day individual SCCs a) during lactation, b) during “dry off” (between the last MR test before drying off and the 1st MR test after delivery) will be the main outcomes from MR. All data will be summarized quarterly and made individually available online for the participants. Conclusions The developed system should comprehensively evaluate not only the quantity and quality of AMU, but also assess targeting of the mastitis treatment and udder health. During the pilot phase, ranking will be conducted among the farms. Later a categorization.
