Orthodontic care in the Czech Republic as of 31 December 2021

Aim: The aim of this study was to survey the number and age distribution of orthodontic specialists in the Czech Republic and the number of orthodontic clinics in the Czech regions including their geographical distribution.Materials and method: Data were sourced from the National Health Information System (NZIS), the database of the Czech Orthodontic Society, the private archive of Prof. MUDr. Milan Kamínek, DrSc., the databases of health insurance companies and regional authorities, and the public database of the Czech Statistical Office.Results: As of 31 December 2021, a total of 375 orthodontic specialists were working in the Czech Republic with an average of 28,045 people per orthodontist. The number of specialists who passed the board exam has increa- sing steadily between years and has stabilised at 15 per year. As of 31 December 2021, there were 361 practices providing orthodontic care in the Czech Republic providing orthodontic care with an average of 29,132 people per practice.Conclusion: The geographical distribution of orthodontic specialists and practices was uneven.
