The use of a parallel corpus is proposed to identify discourse functions based on existence of a formal marker in one of the languages and the possibility to choose the direction of the query (original x translated language), resulting in a set of formsthat are be functionally related. This approach is illustrated on directives to the third person or adverbs expressing permission.
