The book explores recent approaches to the modernist and avant-garde fiction and film via focusing on their intermediality comparison and on the role of expressionistic poetics as a productive type of avant-garde discourses. It attempts to offer a coherent interpretation of modernist and avant-garde tendencies based more on the reflections of their media and their textualities than on theoretical conceptualizations of movements and artistic groups.
