L'articolo mette in risalto le relazioni esistenti tra la letteratura italiana a cavallo tra Ottocento e Novecento e la Massoneria. Nel periodo precedente e quello successivo all'unita d'Italia (1861), la Massoneria svolse un ruolo di primo piano nel contesto sociale, politico e culturale del Paese. Sostenitrice di ideali quali la liberta, la tolleranza, la fratellanza il progresso sociale e il laicismo la Massoneria attrasse a sé molti intellettuali convinti di trovare nelle logge un luogo privilegiatodi liberta di pensiero e circolazione delle idee. Molti famosi scrittori, poeti e uomini di cultura italiani furono certamente influenzati degli ideali massonici e questa influenza ? riscontrabile nelle loro opere letterarie. Nell'articolo si analizzanoalcuni autori per i quali esistono prove certe della loro appartenenza alla Massoneria, ma anche altri per i quali, pur non potendo provare con documenti la loro appartenenza alla Libera Muratoria, hanno condiviso gli ideali di questa Is

This article deals with the relation that exists between Freemasonry and Italian literature between the 19th and 20th centuries. During this historical period the long and complex process of Italian unification was finished (1861) and Italian Freemasonrywas implicated in it performing a very first role (Giuseppe Garibaldi the best example at this respect). As bearers of the ideals of liberty, tolerance, fraternity, progress and secularism, Freemasonry attracted, as their own members, a good deal of intellectuals who were convinced to find in the masonic lodges illustrated minds who were in favour of a change of ideas and freedom of thought. As well lots of writers and educated men were initiated at the masonic lodges and the masonic ideals had an important part in their literary creations of the new Italian society after the Italian unification.
