Il saggio esamina il testo del romanzo Suo marito (1911) con lo prisma della divisione tradizionale del ruolo biologico, sociale e anche artistico legato alla figura femminile e a quella maschile, prendendo in considerazione anche altri testi in cui Pirandello tematizza l'emancipazione della donna. Analizzando i personaggi di Silvia Roncella e Giustino Boggiolo vuole dimostrare che dalla parte dell'autore implicito non si tratti dell'approccio derisorio, bensì umoristico, corrispondente alla sua poetica dichiarata nel saggio L'umorismo (1908). L'autore implicito del romanzo indaga la validita dei ruoli tradizionali femminili e maschili nella societa del suo tempo, sdoppiandosi umoristicamente nei due principi contrari e nello stesso tempo complementari, e rivela il proprio affascinamento della potenza creatrice della donna.

The essay examines the text of the novel Her husband (1911) by Luigi Pirandello with the prism of the traditional division of the biological, social and even artistic role linked to the female and male figure. Other texts in which Pirandello thematises the emancipation of women are also taken into consideration. Analysing the characters of Silvia Roncella and Giustino Boggiolo, the essay wants to demonstrate that on the implicit author's side it is not the derisive, but humorous approach, corresponding to his artistic poetics declared in the essay On humour (1908). The implicit author of the novel investigates the validity of traditional female and male roles in the society of his time, dividing himself humorously into the two opposite and at the same time complementary principles, and reveals his fascination with the creative power of women.
