Starting from a conceptual analysis of the qualitative multiplicity of conscious states, Bergson puts forward a continuist and dynamic view of free action. Not only did Bergson formulate (continuist) arguments in favor of freedom, but also he discovered a conceptual meaning of freedom that had been overlooked until then: freedom as gradual transformation of a person. The conference aimed at further conceptual clarification of this notion of freedom. Concerning Bergson&apos;s philosophy of society, several papers focused on the concept of openness and the correlative concept of rules.
