In diesem Artikel wird das Meer als Raum für künstlerische Performanz in Karen Blixens Erzählungen untersucht, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf theatralischen Aufführungen auf der maritimen Bühne liegt. Eine genauere Analyse der Erzählungen Syndfloden over Norderney und Storme zeigt, dass die auf dem Meer gespielte Rolle typischerweise mit Heldentum verbunden ist, wenngleich die vorgetäuschte Theatralität das Heroische abmildert und teilweise sogar ironisiert. Im Falle von Syndfloden over Norderney ist dabei die Doppelrolle von Kaspersen besonders auffällig, ähnlich wie der intermaritime Bezug zwischen Storme und Shakespeares The Tempest . Die Umkehrung des Blicks vom Land auf das Meer enthüllt so neue Aspekte von Blixens Poetik, in der das Meer als ein grundlegendes Naturelement erscheint, das Kunst nicht nur ermöglicht, sondern auch initiiert.

This article examines the sea as a space for artistic performance in Karen Blixen's short stories, focusing on theatrical performances on the maritime stage. A closer analysis of the stories Syndfloden over Norderney andStorme shows that the role played on the sea is typically associated with heroism, although the feigned theatricality softens and sometimes even ironizes the heroic. In the case of Syndfloden over Norderney , the dual role of Kaspersen is particularly striking in this regard, similar to the intermaritime reference between Storme and Shakespeare's The Tempest . Shifting the focus from land to the sea, thus reveals new aspects of Blixen's poetics, in which the sea appears as a fundamental element of nature that not only enables but also initiates art.
