Lenka Reinerová se refugió en México durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y esta estancia involuntaria de tres años constituyó un hito importante en su vida y en su obra literaria. A través de sus novelas y cuentos breves, escritos después de la guerra, Reinerová presentó la imagen de México a los lectores checoslovacos y alemanes. Sus testimonios ofrecen una fascinante fuente para entender los complejos procesos del entretejido cultural y político del Viejo y Nuevo Mundo en el curso de la dolorosa historia del siglo XX. No obstante, deben ser leídos dentro del contexto histórico de su origen y producción, de la peculiar situación política y cultural de la comunidad de exiliados alemana en México y de la Guerra Fría en Europa Oriental. Además, en este texto presentaremos algunas reflexiones sobre el estilo literario de la autora y su específica visión del mundo.

Lenka Reinerová sought refuge in Mexico during World War II, and her involuntary three-year stay marked an important milestone in her life and literary work. Through her novels and short stories, written after the war, Reinerová presented the image of Mexico to Czechoslovak and German readers. Her testimonies offer a fascinating source for understanding the complex processes of the cultural and political interweaving of the Old and New Worlds in the course of the painful history of the 20th century. However, they must be read within the historical context of their origin and production, the unique political and cultural situation of the German exile community in Mexico, and the Cold War in Eastern Europe. This text also presents some reflections on the author's literary style and specific worldview.
