Just Click, Click and Click! Photojournalism in Print and Online Czech News Media
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Development of the Internet and digital technology by the end of the twentieth century have brought several questions to the field of photojournalism and affected news organizations on different levels. Many traditional print newspapers expanded to the World Wide Web easily. Additionally, new fully online newspapers with web-native journalists emerged. This article presents the results of research in photojournalism across Czech news media. It examines how media professionals handle photography in print and online environments. It also maps the current state of professional photojournalism in the Czech Republic by describing professional practices, routines, responsibilities, and norms. Through interviews and surveys with photojournalists and photo editors from different Czech national and local news media, we ask four research questions. First, we investigated differences in photojournalistic practices, routines and newsroom organization in print and online environments. Second, we compare the amount of published images and ways they have been presented between printed and online news environments. Third, the quality over quantity in print or online media was reflected. Finally, we studied differences between visual content production in Czech national and local media.
