Die Studie untersucht Hegels Ständelehre im Hinblick auf die Frage der politischen Repräsentation und die Möglichkeiten der individuellen Beteiligung an der gesetzgebenden Gewalt des Staates. In einem ersten Schritt werden die Gründe herausgearbeitet, die Hegel dazu bewogen haben, die Idee des allgemeinen Wahlrechts abzulehnen. Anschließend wird dargestellt, wie Hegel das Recht des Einzelnen auf Teilhabe am öffentlichen Leben durch eine Überarbeitung der traditionellen Ständelehre sichern will. Im letzten Abschnitt wird untersucht, inwieweit es Hegel gelungen ist, die moderne Vorstellung von Selbstbestimmung in der Sphäre des politischen Lebens mit der Ständelehre in Einklang zu bringen, und inwieweit seine Kritik am "Atomismus" für die Gegenwart relevant sein kann.

The study examines Hegel's doctrine of estates in relation to the question of political representation and the possibilities of individual participation in the legislative power of the state. In a first step, it focuses on the reasons that led Hegel to reject the idea of universal suffrage. It then presents how Hegel wants to secure the individual's right to participate in public life through a reworking of the traditional doctrine of estates. The final section examines how far Hegel succeeded in this attempt to reconcile the modern notion of self-determination in the sphere of political life with the doctrine of estates, and in what ways his critique of "atomism" may be relevant for the present day.
