It has been shown that the participants in Science and Biology Olympiads have better knowledge of science. Summer science courses, possibly organized by Biology Olympiad (BiO) do increase pupils' motivation and attitude towards biology/ science. They cantherefore be one of the possible ways how to increase pupils' interest in science which has been decreasing for decades. There are still quite some schools which do not take part in BiO in Czech Republic. Therefore, we decided to ask teachers about their opinion on BiO, what are the positives and negatives and how often and regularly do the pupils take part in it. The teachers mostly did realize the motivation potential of BiO. Some of them considered the competition too demanding of pupils' knowledgeor time.
