Erdbeben sind unerwartete Ereignisse, die ohne Vorankündigung auftreten und große Schäden verursachen können. Sie beeinflussen soziale, ökonomische und mentale Strukturen. Eine Geschichte von Erdbeben ist deshalb immer auch eine Geschichte von Menschen und sozialen Systemen, die dazu gezwungen waren, mit ihnen zu leben. Die Autoren von "Nachbeben" beschäftigen sich mit den historischen Erdbeben im Gebiet der heutigen Schweiz. Es geht ihnen um die Geschichte nach dem Ereignis, rekonstruiert aus historischen Schriften. Denn Erdbeben sind nicht nur ein Teil der Geschichte, sondern auch ein wichtiger Hinweis auf die Zukunft. Ein Blick in die Erdbebengeschichte zeigt, dass Menschen gerne verdrängen. Insbesondere starke Erdbeben, die zeitlich und geografischunregelmäßig auftreten und Generationen überspringen, werden von den Zeitgenossinnen und Zeitgenossen, aber auch von ihren Nachfolgegenerationen gerne und rasch verdrängt.

The authors of "aftershocks" deal with the historical earthquake in the area of today's Switzerland. They go to the history of the event reconstruction for historical writings. The earthquakes are not only part of the history but also an important indicator of the future. A look to the earthquake history shows that people supress earthquakes in their memories. That is why it is necessary to deal with the history of earthquakes. For where once they have occurred, they shall occur again.
