La voz y la imagen femenina en la correspondencia cubana del siglo XIX

El objetivo de esta contribución es ofrecer una caracterización sociolingüística de las mujeres cubanas en el siglo XIX a través de documentos autógrafos. Para ello, se toman como fuentes de estudio cartas escritas por madres, esposas, hermanas o amigas, y enviadas a sus familiares durante la última guerra de la independencia de Cuba.El estudio sobre material epistolar permite trazar un perfil sobre la competencia lingüística femenina –tanto en el aspecto oral como en su manifestación escrita– que hace posible determinar usos y tendencias, así como establecer un grado de concordancia con las realizaciones que caracterizan el español cubano actual. De forma concreta, se enuncian tendencias de pronunciación, la competencia escrituraria de las autoras y los usos sociolingüísticos propios. Este análisis se contextualiza en una documentación epistolar interpretada como un egodocumento producido en un contexto histórico de honda transformación para la sociedad cubana y para el papel que en ella desempeña la mujer.

The aim of this contribution is to offer a sociolinguistic characterization of Cuban women in the 19th century through autograph documents. For this purpose, the sources of study are letters written by mothers, wives, sisters, or friends and sent to their relatives during the last Cuban war of independence. The study of epistolary material makes it possible to define female linguistic competence –both in its oral aspect and in its written manifestation– which makes it possible to determine uses and tendencies, as well as to establish a degree of correlation with the realizations which characterize current Cuban Spanish. More specifically, the contribution describes pronunciation trends, the authors' written competence, and their sociolinguistic uses. This analysis is contextualized in epistolary documentation, construed as an egodocument written in a historical context of profound transformation in Cuban society and women ́s role in it.
