Data Processing of Air Temperature and Precipitation Series in Ghana
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The basis of climatology is the availability of reliable observation data. With recent climatic changes, one must uphold the relevance of quality control andhomogenization prior to any data analysis since these results are used to evaluate theimpact of climate change on various socio-economic sectors to implement adaptationmeasures accordingly. This study presents a step-by-step guide for processing dailyprecipitation and air temperature data in Ghana using multiple statistical tests andreference series which is suitable for areas with sparse observations and lot ofmissing data. Initial datasets contained missing values ranging from 0-13 % forprecipitation, 1-13 % for minimum temperature and 1-14 % for maximumtemperature. The number of outliers ranged from 0-15 for minimum temperatureand 0-22 for maximum temperature with no outliers detected for precipitation.Inhomogeneities detected were 2 and 9 for maximum and minimum temperaturerespectively and precipitation datasets were homogeneous. Data recovered after gapfilling ranged from 97-100 % for precipitation, 99-100 % for maximum temperatureand 72-100 % for minimum temperature. The results indicate that datasets recordedfrom manual weather stations are quality controlled before made publicly available.
