La storiografia ha costruito e quindi decostruito il mito di un´iconografia petrina, la cosiddetta Traditio Legis. Con il presente intervento s´intende rivisitare da un punto di vista piu' complesso, questo argomento. La nostra ambizione e' quella di riflettere sulla nozione stessa di Traditio legis, allargando il campo d´indagine dal punto di vista geografico: oltre al panorama romano, fulcro tradizionale degli studi, l´analisi tiene conto di realta' periferiche, come il mosaico absidale nella chiesa di Cromi, in Georgia, databile al VII secolo. E' poi anche studiata la percezione che le immagini definite come Traditio legis ebbero nel corso del Medioevo. Un´attenzione particolare, infine, e' dedicata alla situazione romana durante i primi secoli dopoil Mille.

Historigraphy has constructed and then deconstructed the myth of a Petrine iconography, the so-called Traditio legis. With this work we intend to revisit this topic from a more complex point of view. We aim to reflect on the very notion of Traditio legis, expanding the scope of inquiry geographically: beyond the circles of Rome, the traditional focus of study, our analysis takes account of outside realities, such as the apsidal mosaic in the church of Cromi, in Georgia, datable to the seventh century. We also studied the perception that images defined as Traditio legis had in the course of the Middle Ages. Particular attention, finally, is dedicated to the situation in Rome during the first centuries after the year 1000.
