Visegrad-Turkish Culture Festival, Hungarian Cultural Centre and Gama Gallery invited to Istanbul Dariusz Fodczuk, a Polish contemporary artist and performer, who lead a 1-day workshop for visual and performing artists from Istanbul. The workshop was inspired by a creative approach developed by Joseph Beuys known as the ‘social sculpture’. We will search for the meaning of the concept and try to answer some questions such as: Can human relationships and activities be sculpted? Are we able to translate them into categories of beauty? Is category of beauty necessary if it cannot be adopted into the social sculpture situation? What are meanings of beauty? Does empathy have any use for art? Dariusz Fodczuk (b. 1966) is one of the most recognisable performance artist of Poland; painter, sculptor and video artist. He studied at the Institute of Art Education, Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Lublin. Graduated in 1992. He has presented his works at over two hundred festivals and solo exhibitions in Europe, Israel, Thailand, Singapore, Canada and USA. He teaches at the Academy of Art in Szczecin (Poland). Dariusz Fodczuk about his work: “For me art is a Super-Language – for me, trans-verbal communication is the key to art. Aesthetics and formal solutions are of the secondary priority to me and are interesting only as far as they may help communication to be more effective. Joseph Beuys has foretold: "In the future, everyone will be an artist." I understand this statement meaning that in the future society will communicate using the language of installation and performance art to live a fuller conscious existence. I don’t think he was referring to those producing nice looking objects nor to those painting nice looking pictures. In my opinion, practising performance and other forms of contemporary art can bring his wish closer to reality.”
