Actors in Networks, Networks in Database : Film Culture in the Czechoslovak city Zlín/Gottwaldov reconstructed and researched
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The Czechoslovak city Zlín, renamed Gottwaldov back in the era of state socialism, was a hub of film production since 1936 and a place with film festivals’ tradition since 1940. The presented project strives to identify possibilities how the multifaceted, layered history of the city’s film production and film culture can be reconstructed and presented in a manner both attractive for a wide spectre of users interested in the location and helpful and inspiring for historians. The main inspiration for the database under construction is Actor-Network-Theory (ANT). Following this descriptive concept, the database recognises a wide spectre of human and non-human, micro- and macro-actors. The descriptive, flat ontology represented by ANT fits the ambition for the non-hierarchical reconstruction of (almost) any actor tied in (almost) any form to the cinema production in Zlín/Gottwaldov film ateliers . With film ateliers serving as a defining characteristic, the network includes actors and relational ties that provide a chance for a decentralised perspective on film reception (e.g. children audiences at the children films festival), distribution (e.g. formats of distribution used for short films produced at the ateliers), and exhibition (e.g. alternative, non-cinema-venues screening modes applied in the city).
