Das Kapitel beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, wie Herzog Albrecht V. und sein Herzogtum Österreich den langen Krieg gegen die Hussiten (1420-1436) finanzierten, sowohl den Feldzug nach Böhmen und Mähren als auch die Verteidigung gegen spätere hussitische Einfälle in Österreich. Die zentrale Quelle sind die Jahresrechnungen von Albrechts Hubmeister Berthold von Mangen, die Aufschluss über die Höhe der Kriegsausgaben und den damit verbundenen Anstieg der herzoglichen Einnahmen geben. Der Autor zieht aber auch andere Quellen heran und versucht, die Struktur der Ausgaben und Einnahmen näher zu ergründen. Welche Rolle spielten außerordentliche Steuern, Anleihen und Verpfändungen, aber auch einige Sondereinnahmen wie der päpstliche Zehnt oder der Gewinn aus der Konfiskation jüdischen Besitzes? In einem eigenen Exkurs untersucht der Autor die finanziellen Auswirkungen der Hussitenkriege auf ein ausgewähltes herzogliches Stift - das Chorherrenstift Klosterneuburg. Außerdem veröffentlicht er eine Tabelle über die Höhe der Hussitensteuer, die den österreichischen Klöstern, Kapiteln und Dekanaten im Jahr 1429 vorgeschrieben wurde.

The chapter deals with the question of how Duke Albert V and his Duchy of Austria financed the long war against the Hussites (1420-1436), both the campaign into Bohemia and Moravia and the defence against later Hussite incursions into Austria. The central source is the annual accounts of Albert's hubmeister Berthold of Mangen, which inform us of the amount of war expenses and the associated increase in ducal revenues. The author also takes into account other sources and attempts to get a closer look at the structure of expenditure and income. What role did extraordinary taxes, loans and pledges play, but also some special revenues such as the papal tithe or the profits from the confiscation of Jewish property? In a separate excursus, the author examines the financial impact of the Hussite wars on a selected ducal monastery - the canonry of Klosterneuburg. He also publishes a table of the amount of the Hussite tax prescribed for Austrian monasteries, chapters and deaneries in 1429.
