Languages and patterns of linguistic exchanges in East Asian tributary relations

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

The purpose of this presentation was to focus on outer conditions and contexts of language change in case of Sino-Vietnamese contacts and, in general sense, on patterns of language contacts in East Asian tributary relations. The paper presented examples of contrasts between language change in direct language contact (= with examples of code-switching in previous fieldwork focused on Altaic languages) and written language contact. Main part of this section was focused on gradual adoption or copying of lexicon and grammatical patterns from actively used written language: exactly from written Chinese to Vietnamese. While typological comments characterized processes shaping results of similarities among main East Asian languages, the written language contact was documented on specific stages of interferences of Vietnamese speakers with Written Chinese. The second part was focused on patterns of linguistic exchange between nations in tributary relations. Main paradoxes are related to the fact, that languages of expanding groups (like Manchu) are often gradually Sinicized, while languages of smaller or subordinate groups might have specific advantages and vigorous perspective of survival, like the Vietnamese in relation to Chinese, Mongolian in relation to Manchu, Korean in relation to other neighboring languages, or even smaller languages in geographically diverse South China and mainland Southeast Asia.
