Der Aufsatz untersucht, anhand von Archivmaterial, die Beziehung Hannah Arendts zur Zeitschrift Merkur (Merkur. Deutsche Zeitschrift für europäisches Denken), in der Auszüge aus ihren grundlegenden Nachkriegswerken veröffentlicht wurden. Arendt misstraute der Zeitschrift zunächst, da sie zu Recht eine Tendenz spürte, das Thema Holocaust nicht anzusprechen. Dies änderte sich jedoch während der 1950er und Anfang der 1960er Jahre; Teile ihres Buches über den Eichmann-Prozess wurden erstmals in Deutschland in Merkur veröffentlicht. Auf theoretischer Ebene versucht der Artikel, zwei wichtige Konzepte von Arendt zu untersuchen: Masse und Mob.

The article, based on archival materials, describes Hannah Arendt' s relationship with the journal Merkur. Deutsche Zeitschrift für europäisches Denken (Mercury. The German journal for European thought), where excerpts from her key postwar works were published. Arendt initially distrusted the journal, as she correctly sensed a tendency to avoid addressing the topic of the Holocaust. However, this changed during the 1950s, and by the early 1960s, for the first time in Germany, parts of her book on the Eichmann trial were published in Merkur. On a theoretical level, the article attempts to explore two important concepts of Arendt: the mass and the mob.
