This chapter summarises the comparative legal analysis of water law in the European Union (EU). Despite some problems with the implementation of the Water Framework Directive by the EU countries analysed in this study, many regulations on water law have been adopted, which could be a model for other countries. This analysis resulted in many recommendations. For example, (1) unifying the water-law regulations in one act that comprehensively regulates the matter, but with the leading role of the Environmental Protection Act, (2) regulating the rules and all aspects of water management and surface water protection in one comprehensive act, (3) strengthening the role of local government with which the institutional aspect is linked, (4) increasing the role of local authorities as bodies involved in water and wastewater management, or (5) imposing additional obligations on the entities that discharge industrial wastewater into water reservoirs with regard to the requirements for obtaining a water-law permit and installations. The recommendations of the legal solutions implemented and functioning in the field of management and protection of inland waters in the EU countries analysed may provide an opportunity to change the overall approach in the field of both quantitative and qualitative water protection.
