Dieser Artikel untersucht Paratexte (Vorworte, Nachworte usw.), die von tschechischen Literaturkritiker:innen und Übersetzer:innen während des sozialistischen totalitären Regimes in der Tschechoslowakei zu den Texten von Peter Handke verfasst wurden. Es analysiert den Einfluss der kommunistischen Zensur auf die Gestaltung von Form und Inhalt dieser Paratexte und untersucht die Strategien, mit denen Autoren Handkes Texte im vorherrschenden politischen Kontext präsentieren. Trotz der Zensur versuchten die Autoren der Paratexte, dem tschechoslowakischen Leserpublikum die Komplexität und Bedeutung von Handkes Werk zu vermitteln. Der Text beleuchtet unterschiedliche Interpretationen Handkes, von seiner Darstellung als „Vertreter einer ungesunden Literatur“ in den 1970er Jahren über die dekonstruktivistischen Ansätze der 1980er Jahre bis in die Gegenwart.

This article explores paratexts created by Czech literary critics and translators during the socialist totalitarian regime in Czechoslovakia for Peter Handke's texts. It analyzes the impact of communist censorship on shaping the form and content of these paratexts and examines the strategies used by authors to present Handke's texts within the prevailing political context. Despite challenges, some paratext authors sought to convey the complexity and significance of Handke's work to the Czechoslovak readership. The text highlights the varied interpretations of Handke, ranging from a representative of an unhealthy literary trend in the 70s to a deconstructor of manipulative narratives in the 80s till today.
