The Missing Link in Course Design: Student Motivation in Legal English Classes
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Since the motivation to learn and practice English is markedly different among various groups of students taking legal English classes (e.g. undergraduates as opposed to practising lawyers), ESP teachers need to take into account the specificities of their target groups. Arguably, undergraduates form a relatively homogenous age group of students that expect more from their classes than systematically acquiring legal content according to a pre-defined scenario. Thus, in order to keep this particular audience motivated, various strategies have proved to be useful, ranging from student quizzes, the use of video, ICT-based assignments, peer review to case studies and projects. The presentation will discuss and demonstrate some of the most successful activities, arguing that they can all provide background to law-related tasks and help to create a positive and motivating learning atmosphere.
