The work of university part-time students in language courses is affected mainly by a reduced number of in-class sessions, which may lead to limiting communicative components of the lessons This paper introduces interactive activities included in the innovated syllabus of English for International Trade Law in a part-time bachelor? s degree programme at the Faculty of Law, Masaryk University, neverthless, the mentioned examples can be adapted to various other ESP settings. The paper describes several complex activities, presents examples of students? work, discusses benefits and drawbacks of individual tasks and suggests further alternatives. The activities combine pre-session preparation and in-class work. When preparing the students should be well aware of the aims of the tasks to be able to produce a piece of work which will enable them to practice the language effectively. The activities are designed to support students? critical thinking and to eliminate "paste & copy" approac
