Obejmuje ona podstawowe trendy badań i ich rozwój, od późnobarokowych prób krytycznej historiografii, poprzez pozytywizm, aż po badania traktujące artystyczne przejawy czci religijnej jako dowody historyczne, inspirowane nowymi podejściami badawczymi, łączącymi metodologię antropologii, komparatystyki, historii mentalności i badań nad reprezentacją.

From an interdisciplinary perspective, this chapter summarizes sources and bibliography related to the veneration and artistic expressions of the cult of St. John of Nepomuk from the Baroque period to the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. It covers basic trends in research and their development, from late Baroque attempts at critical historiography through positivism to research that considers artistic expressions of religious veneration as historical evidence and is inspired by new approaches combining the methodologies of anthropology, comparative literature, the history of mentalities, and representation research.
