Regional development and the concept of competitiveness of regions get to the forefront of interest primarily in connection with the European Union. Competitiveness and increasing cohesion of the European Union has become the main objective of developing strategies of nations. Member states carry out regional policy in the context of support of employment, growth and competitiveness. In this context, it is necessary to predict the factors that increase the competitiveness of regions. They contribute to the growth of the whole area. The search of factors that would increase the competitiveness of the area, must be based on respecting of different economic levels of regions within a country. In a country there are prosperous regions and also regions with below average economic performance, high unemployment and with other social problems. Human factor, its quantitative and qualitative aspects, is also an important factor. The article analyzes the competitiveness of the regions of the Czech Republic. The aim of this article is to analyze the economic situation of the regions and in connection with characterized their demographic potential.
