Construction Contract Performance Measurement: Investigating the Aspects of Responsibility and Digitalization
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The success of construction projects should be based on management support for performance measurement. It is therefore essential that the performance measurement system provides the managers with the necessary data in a timely manner. This study explores the issue of responsibility for project-level performance in construction companies and reveals how contemporary digital technologies are being used to support performance measurement. An online questionnaire survey was used to collect 53 data samples representing the views and experiences of construction professionals across the Czech Republic. The results of this study show that the role of the person responsible for performance measurement is not uniformly perceived and practiced in the Czech construction industry. Furthermore, the willingness to perform performance measurement audits increases with the size of the company. From the perspective of digitalization, the awareness of modern approaches based on BIM (Building Information Modeling) is satisfactory, but the analyzed data indicates that contract management and measurement is still mainly based on traditional approaches based on software tools such as Microsoft Excel and Project. This study has revealed the current approaches of Czech construction companies to contract performance measurement. The results presented suggest that inconsistency in the approach to contract measurement, together with low use of modern tools, may lead to problems in achieving the desired project-level performance. Future research should therefore focus in this direction and explore possible causal connections.
