Sensory evaluation of 17 elderberry cultivars grown in the Czech republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of this study was to sensory evaluate fruit quality characters of elderberry cultivars Albida, Allesö, Aurea, Bohatka, Dana, Haschberg, Heidegg 13, Korsør, Mammut, Pregarten, Riese aus Voßloch, Sambo, Sambu, Samdal, Sampo, Samyl and Weihenstephan. The collection (3 plants of each cultivar) was planted in the north-east part of the Czech Republic at an altitude of 320 m and spacing of 3 x 2 m. In two consecutive years (2010-2011), the following characters were evaluated: appearance, juiciness, aroma, flavor and overall taste. A nine-point evaluation scale was used with one the lowest, and nine the highest level of the character. A total point score was the sum of points of all evaluated characters. Significant differences among several cultivars were found in all observed characteristics except juiciness. The highest score obtained was by the Austrian cultivar Heidegg 13, which showed satisfactory values for all evaluated characters. Two Slovak cultivars Dana and Bohatka followed. Dana differed from Heidegg 13 in appearance, which was lower by only 0.5 points. Danish cultivar Samdal, Austrian cultivar Haschberg and German cultivar Weihenstephan also obtained high scores. In contrast, the lowest scored cultivars were Albida and Aurea.
