Modelování a optimalizace tepelné práce licí pánve v procesu sekundární metalurgie

Modeling and Optimization of Ladle Thermal Performance in the Secondary Metallurgy Process
Popis výsledku anglicky
Industries that carry out high temperature processes, e.g. the iron and steel industry require advanced energy solutions for efficient heat management during processing. Steel makers have been looking for new strategies to decrease the steelmaking energy consumption due to the growing demand for modern steel products and their environmental impacts. Steelmaking community is facing multiple challenges those vary from energy and raw material costs for sustainable business to producing high value-added grades to cater ever increasing demands of customers. Technological advancements facilitate process engineers to meet the challenges to a great extent. Continuously evolving industrial automation systems equipped with sophisticated instrumentation, PLCs, data acquisitions systems and real time process models have demonstrated enormous potential in achieving high quality consistently while optimizing resource utilization. As a result, now-a-day such automation systems became an integral part of the steel manufacturing. When steel remains in the casting ladle for an extended period from tapping to the end of casting at the continuous casting, a considerable amount of heat accumulates in the refractory lining, especially when the steel undergoes secondary metallurgy treatment in a ladle furnace. Knowledge of the amount of thermal energy stored in the ladle allows for better predictions of the steel temperature during the process. This has a potential to improve the quality of the steel. Effective use of the heat accumulated in the ladle lining, aimed at reducing thermal losses of liquid steel after the next tapping, requires optimization of the ladle's thermal regime. To determine the thermal behaviour of the ladle lining and to predict the temperature evolution of the steel, numerical methods for solving transient heat conduction were employed. These methods are based on spatial and temporal discretization of the temperature field. The simulations take into account both the heat accumulation within the lining and the dynamic effects of technological operations over time. The calculations were based on an implicit scheme, which ensures stable simulation even with extended time steps. Determining the change in steel temperature in the ladle during the technological stage from tapping into the casting ladle to the end of continuous casting enables the prediction of the steel temperature at the start of casting, or alternatively at the end of secondary metallurgy in the ladle furnace. This, in turn, allows for the optimization of the target temperature at the ladle furnace exit. The use of advanced numerical methods and models for controlling the thermal regime of the casting ladle thus represents a key tool for improving process efficiency, reducing production costs, and simultaneously contributing to the environmental sustainability of metallurgical operations. Artificial intelligence methods can also be employed to optimize the temperature field. The paper focuses on optimizing the thermal management of the casting ladle with the aim of minimizing heat losses of liquid steel throughout the entire technological process — from the melting unit, through ladle furnace treatment, to continuous casting.
