Tourism is a labour intensive sector employing one out of every eleven people. Human resources are the major key to visitors' satisfaction, and so that able to enhance competitiveness and quality. Globalization has increased competition in tourism markets, and the industry realizes that human resources development has become more and more critical to the success of tourism in many markets. The current higher education in tourism in the Czech Republic does not respond adequately to new trends in tourismand, therefore is not fully able to equip graduates with the necessary skills for a globalized tourism market with a focus on sustainability at the same time. Private higher education institutions respond to the new challenges significantly more flexiblythan the public one, but is often limited by the number of available academic staff. In this context, the aim of this paper is to define the possible ways of modernizing tourism higher education in the Czech Republic.
