Hoy en día el movimiento indígena ecuatoriano es heterogéneo, capaz de representar intereses de los campesinos indígenas de las tierras altas, así como proteger las culturas autóctonas de las tierras bajas. A través de su alto nivel de organización, donde las organizaciones locales se agrupan en federaciones y confederaciones, llegó a formar uno de los movimientos indígenas más poderosos de América Latina.

Today the Ecuadorian indigenous movement is heterogeneous, capable of representing the interests of the indigenous peasants of the highlands, as well as protecting the indigenous cultures of the lowlands. Through its high level of organization, where local organizations are grouped into federations and confederations, it came to form one of the most powerful indigenous movements in Latin America.
